Job Description:

The Herdsman/woman is responsible for the daily care and management of a herd of animals, typically cattle or sheep. This includes tasks such as feeding, watering, and monitoring the health and well-being of the animals. The Herdsman/woman will also be responsible for maintaining the pasture and fencing, as well as performing basic herd management tasks such as breeding, calving, and lambing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Feed and water the herd on a daily basis
• Monitor the health and well-being of the animals
• Maintain pasture and fencing
• Perform basic herd management tasks such as breeding, calving, and lambing
• Keep accurate records of animal health, feed, and other herd management activities
• Supervise and train any assistants or interns
• Communicate with the farm manager or owner on any issues or concerns regarding the herd

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience working with cattle or sheep preferred
• Strong knowledge of herd management and animal husbandry practices
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical labor
• Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
• Good communication skills and ability to work well in a team
• Must have a valid driver’s license
