NBA’s famous player Iman Shumpert has been arrested for felony weed possession. The former New York Knicks player was arrested at the Dallas airport before he got on a flight to Los Angles.

Shumpert was arrested at around 2.40 pm on charges of possession of marijuana in his bag. TMZ reported that the former NBA player had an “sizeable amount of a green leafy substance” placed inside his bag, which amounted to over 6.12 ounces of marijuana.

According to authorities, a magazine containing nine 14 milliliters bullets for a Glock was also found, although no gun was there.

It was reported that Shumpert asked the authorities if there was any way he could get on the flight as he had to see his daughter. But his request got denied as he was placed under arrest. He accepted that the marijuana in the bag was his.

Shumpert has two daughters with his wife Teyana Taylor. Junie is 6 years old whereas Rue is 23 months old.

Shumpert is facing up to 2 years in jail and a $10,000 fine if he is convicted. Marijuana is legal in California, where he was flying to, however, it is not legal in Texas.

Why Was Iman Shumpert Arrested?

Anything over 4 grams is charged with a felony under Texas law. Shumpert was carrying 6.12 ounces, which is around 170 grams.

According to sources, the Tarrant County District Attorney’s office has not filed any charges as of now. However, the star has been transported to the DFW/DPS jail.

More About Iman Shumpert

Shumpert was drafted in the first round by the New York Knicks in 2011. This was after he played college basketball at Georgia Tech.

He stayed with the Knicks until 2015 when he got traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He played the next three seasons alongside legendary Lebron James. They even created history together.

The highlight or perhaps the most memorable part of his career was when the Cavaliers defeated the Golden State Warriors to win the 2016 NBA Finals. This was despite the fact that the Cavaliers were behind 3-1 in the series.

His later years as a player went down as nondescript stints with Sacramento Kings and the Houston Rockets. The 2020-21 season was spent with Brooklyn Nets

Apart from his time as a professional NBA player, he also became a celebrity off the court. He went on to appear on season 30 of Dancing With The Stars and even won the competition alongside his partner Daniella Karagach.

He dedicated his win to his mother. Shumpert was also the only NBA star to even make it to the finale of the show in over 30 seasons.

Shumpert also pursued his musical inclination by releasing music under his first name IMAN. Recently, he took up a key role in the Starz hit show named The Chi.

A couple of years ago, Shumpert was arrested for Driving Under Influence. Back then, he faced charges for DUI, possession of marijuana and failure to maintain lane.

Shumpert’s arrest for marijuana is the lasted among others. Montrezl Harrell, who plays a forward for the Charlotte Hornets, was arrested at a traffic stop for possession of over 3 pounds of marijuana. He is facing up to 5 years in jail.
