The Addams Family returns in a new avatar! The ghoulish clan, which first appeared in a comic strip, and then went on to have a ’60s sitcom and a film based on them, returns on Netflix in a new series, the trailer of which has just been released by the streaming giant.
Titled Wednesday, the series is a supernatural mystery-comedy centered around Wednesday Addams, the twisted teenage daughter of Morticia and Gomez Addams. Read on to watch the exciting trailer of the upcoming show.
Wednesday Trailer Features the Teen Enjoying Herself in her new Spooky High School
“Little did I know that I’d be stepping into a nightmare. Full of mystery, mayhem and murder. I think I’m going to love it here,” Wednesday says in the trailer. The trailer sets the bloody tone for the series by displaying visuals of the teen enjoying as she drops angry fish into the high school swimming pool, which eats on the school bully’s ***.
After being expelled from eight schools in five years, Wednesday finds a school and a social circle that she fits in, the Nevermore Academy. She is then shown getting into mysterious situations along with her creepy classmates.
The trailer also shows Morticia and Gomez Addams continuing their sensual public displays of affection as Wednesday rolls her eyes and thinks of new ways to playfully torture her younger brother Pugsley. The eight-episode series is set to premiere this fall on Netflix. Watch the gripping trailer below.
The Series has been Imagined by Tim Burton
Four episodes of the show have been directed by Tim Burton, who is known for his gothic fantasy and horror films. Burton was also supposed to direct the 1991 film The Addams Family, but passed on the project at the time due to scheduling conflicts with his other directorial, Batman Returns.
The official description of Wednesday reads, “The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the murder mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”
Wednesday Stars Jenna Ortega as the Titular Character
Jenna Ortega, known for her roles in You and Fallout, plays Wednesday Addams in the show. Other cast members include Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez and Isaac Ordonez as Wednesday’s brother Pugsley, Victor Dorobantu as the disembodied hand servant, Thing, and George Burcea as servant Lurch.
The show will also star Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Naomi J Ogawa, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer and Riki Lindhome. Christina Ricci, who played the iconic role of Wednesday in the 1990s film series, will make a special appearance in another role, Marilyn Thornhill.
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar serve as co-showrunners, writers and executive producers on the series. Other executive producers include Tim Burton, Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Kevin Miserocchi, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman and Gail Berman. The show has been produced by MGM Television.
