When is the Queen’s funeral?

At the time of writing (the morning of Friday 9 September), Buckingham Palace is yet to confirm the date and details of the Queen’s funeral, but royal protocol dictates that it is held 10 days after the monarch’s death. This would make the date of the funeral Sunday 18th September. As the funeral is likely to be on a weekday, some news sources are speculating that it will be held on Monday 19 September.

Where will the Queen’s funeral be held?

The state funeral will be held at Westminster Abbey, with the coffin carried from Westminster Hall, where it will have been lying in wait, to the Abbey which is less than 500 feet away. After the service, a procession will move with the coffin through London to Hyde Park, at which point the coffin will be taken to Windsor. 

What will happen at the Queen’s funeral?

Senior members of the Royal Family, including King Charles III, are likely to follow the procession of the Queen’s coffin from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey. The service, led by senior members of the Church of England, will be televised.

No. Around 2,000 guests will be invited to attend the funeral at Westminster Abbey. However, well-wishers from the public will line the streets of London, including the Mall outside Buckingham Palace, to watch the procession.

Yes. The biggest procession of the Queen’s coffin will take place after the funeral at Westminster Abbey when it will be carried down the Mall to Hyde Park Corner. 

Where will the Queen be buried?

The Queen will be buried at Windsor Castle, her favourite residence, where her parents are buried. Prince Philip, her husband, will be moved from the Royal Vault to join his wife in the King George VI Memorial Chapel.
